Lizet Heijboer completed her studies in Dutch Literature (University of Amsterdam) and Graphic Design (Royal Academy of Art, The Hague). In 2007, she began working as a designer at her own agency, Wildegeit, specializing in book design, visual identities, and posters. She creates the artwork and illustrations herself.
For several years now, Lizet spends more time on her independent work, which she began developing at the art academy. The etching press is her favorite tool for creating monoprints. Her work is abstract, colorful, playful. The prints resemble jagged rocks, in which sometimes a figure appears. A lot of happy coincidences happen in the process. They might even be what Lizet is chasing at.
Other materials Lizet prefers to works with are Indian ink, gouache, pencil, and charcoal. With these, she explores the possibilities for very direct expression. She creates “impulsive ink drawings,” where “the drawing comes first, and then the thought.” You can see the drawings as preliminary studies for larger, “slower” works, and as a prelude to stories yet to be told. More to come.
